Anatomy · Spring-applied brake

The brake works by spring force, not by current.

On power loss the brake closes automatically. Brake motors are used where stopping within a fraction of a second is essential. Four components do the work.

01 · Coil Magnetic coil When energised the coil pulls the armature. On power loss the armature is released.

02 · Armature Movable armature Travels 0.2-0.6 mm. Corrosion-coated steel plate, traceable per batch.

03 · Disc Friction disc Mounted on the shaft. Lining: organic or sintered, ATEX variant available.

04 · Springs Compression springs Press the armature against the disc on power loss. Failsafe, no active signal required.

Applications

When a brake motor?

A brake motor is an electric motor with a built-in electromagnetic brake on the non-driven end of the shaft. On power failure or planned stop, the spring-loaded brake closes automatically and locks the shaft within fractions of a second. Essential in:
